SUMITOMO BAKELITE GROUP is a Japanese group formed in 1955 through a merger of Sumitomo Kakozai (plastics) and Nippon Bakelite. The start of production of phenolic resins by Nippon Bakelite dates back to 1911.

Today, Sumitomo Bakelite is the largest producer in the world of “Phenolic molding Compounds” and one of the leading producers worldwide of specialty phenolic resins.

Apart from phenolics, Sumitomo Bakelite is active in several areas.  

A major part of the production is used for materials in electronics and the semiconductor industry.
